Pools (General)

Safty

Safty is always the main concern with swimming pools. No children under sixteen should be allowed by the pool without adult supervision. The typical pool is 3foot to 6foot deep and no diving is allowed as these are smaller backyard type pools.

The pool should always look clear blue. Certain colored tiles and finishes can make the pool look look green or with the lagoon finish muddy brown could be the normal look.Generally speaking if the pool looks green it usually means it has a yellow mustard algae on the walls or the bottom so you shouldn't swim in it until it has been treated.

Servicing

A regular chlorine type pool will need to be serviced weekly chemicals will be balanced and the pool will be brushed, skimmer baskets cleaned and filters cleaned on an as needed basis. When taking a water sample remember to collect it in a clean jar or container, the water needs to be scopped from two foot under water so the chemical content can be acuractly tested. This is due to the sun which burns the chemicals off the pool surface. If you take your sample to your local pool store they will (in many cases) test the water for free as long as you buy the right chemical that the pool needs from them.

Change your pool filter yearly, they oten state they are good for up to two years...not really when so many different tourists are in your pool. Excessive sun tan oil build up can and does shorten the life span of a pool filter.

Heating
Pool blanket on a roller, this is the easiest way to keep the pool heat trapped underneath it in the winter. The tourists need to roll it back when using the pool and cover it when they're out of the pool. Mid April thro mid Oct it's not needed. The best thing to do is hose it down take a good look at it and put it in the garage till the next season. I've never known a pool blanket last longer than a couple of years. They are like bubble wrap and left on the pool for large amounts of time the bubbles start to break down as the sun will shine on the even in the winter. So, be prepared to replace this every couple of years. If you don't you might end up needing to replace not only your pool filter but cartridge too which is even more expensive!
